More

March 28, 2008

I finished processing my shoot with tiny Miss S and her dear parents earlier this week, and I have a few faves I really want to share.

Lemon tree
This photo is processed to achieve a result similar to traditional cross processing. I love this look, but I try to use it sparingly as not everyone’s a fan. It usually works best on outdoor photos.

Vintage baby
She was just the perfect candidate for a vintage look storyboard, especially in that heavenly little dress.

And I have some VERY exciting news to share in my next post, so check back soon.

In the space of six weeks

March 14, 2008

On Monday I did a photoshoot for my dear friends Mr G and Mrs M, with their beautiful seven week old daughter Miss S. She’s a very laid back little Miss and was beautifully cooperative and tolerant. She even posed for the camera, and she only cried once during the whole shoot!

I first met her when she was only a week old, and I had the opportunity to take a few impromptu shots.

Here she is at one week old, being held by her Daddy. I love the contrast of his rough worker’s hands and her delicate little body (he had been renovating the spare room when we arrived - quite a feat for a new Dad methinks!).

I was amazed by how alert she was at only one week old.

Now look how much she’s grown in six weeks!

I love her cheeky face in the first one, fresh from the bath with gorgeous, crinkly hair.

While being burped after a nice long feed, the little darling fell asleep propped on her mummy’s hand. All together now: awwww!

What a proud Daddy Mr G is!

And don’t they both look so radiant in this shot? Not at all how I remembering looking (and feeling) when I had a seven week old baby!

I hope you enjoy this preview my lovely friends. Mwuah!

Among the gum trees

March 3, 2008

I spent a good portion of last week processing images from the first shoot, and I’m really happy with how they came out.  I then finished off the job with a promised extra half hour yesterday. A gloriously warm afternoon down by the lake made for a lot of great photo ops, however I still disappoint myself frequently and I have a lot to learn about working with light and faces. Portrait work is so very different to landscapes and macros, which is what photography was all about for me until last year.

Anyway, practice makes perfect, and I’m a fast learner. Just so long as I can find some more people who trust me enough to give me a go! Speaking of which, if you are in Canberra and would like a session with me, email me at kat.words at gmail dot com (written that way purely to prevent spam) and I’ll share all the details with you.

I couldn’t resist posting another shot. I just love this one: it has such an Australian feel about it, don’t you think?
