A beautiful Fathers Day gift idea | Canberra family photographer

July 29, 2010

Fathers Day is only five weeks away, and I’m excited to announce a special offer that will guarantee the best Fathers Day gift EVER!!!

I recently found a new supplier of stunning fine art canvases. I had never really been excited about canvases until I saw these. The quality is superb, the colours are rich and luscious and the clarity is outstanding. I am so happy to be able to provide such a wonderful product to my clients, and I just think one of these babies would be such an awesome Fathers Day gift!

So, here’s the deal…

On the afternoon of Tuesday August 10 (that’s next Tuesday!), I will be holding a limited number of mini sessions (around 30 minutes per session) in a beautiful outdoor location in Belconnen. These sessions are designed for Mum and the kids, or just the kids by themselves, and the aim is to pick one image to be made into a stunning fine art wall canvas (measuring 16×24″), which will arrive in time to give to Dad on Fathers Day. You also get a beautiful custom designed Fathers Day card with an image from your session and your own message inside. You will choose your images from a private online gallery a few days after your session. The package cost is $500. Additional prints and products are also available to purchase as per my regular pricing, however I am offering your digital collection as an add-on for the amazing price of $550, which includes a set of 5×7.5″ prints.

Please call or email immediately to book your session! | katie@heartstoryphotography.com.au | 0402 091 949.

Heartstory {Canberra family photography}

Terms & Conditions:

  • Package must be paid for in full within three days of booking.
  • Your order (canvas and card) must be placed within three days of receiving your gallery, however your gallery will be available until September 12 for any additional prints and products you may wish to order.
  • Canvas measures 16×24″, and comes wrapped around a 32mm profile timber frame, ready to hang straight on the wall.
  • Sessions will last approximately 30 minutes and will yield a collection of 10-15 images.
  • If it rains on the designated afternoon, sessions will be shifted to either Wednesday 11 or Thursday 12 August.
  • Normal Heartstory portrait terms & conditions apply (please see portrait agreement when booking your session).

More holiday polaroids | Canberra lifestyle photographer

June 25, 2010

DAY THREE

Ever tried standing on a cliff edge with a two year old? It’s scary. It looks like we’re standing about two metres back, but it’s actually about five. And I would. Not. Let. Go. Of. His. Hand.

Heartstory {lifestyle photography}

DAY FOUR

A trip to Husky is never complete without fish and chips. I don’t know if it really is ‘world famous’, but it tastes good enough to be.

Heartstory {lifestyle photography}

DAY FIVE

Stopped at Milton on the drive home to Canberra. Would have taken more pics but got lost in an antique shop for about an hour.

See how Toby is eyeing his plate suspiciously? Well it’s banana bread with ricotta and honey. He. Didn’t. Like. It. Toddlers are insane.

Missing summer | Canberra family photography

June 24, 2010

I’m backtracking again.

Reason #352 why I love my iPhone:  I can take fun photos whenever and whereever I like without dragging my SLR around.

It goes without saying that my SLR did accompany my every step during our family holiday at Jervis Bay in April (yes, even on the beach with fine, fine sand and brand new very expensive lenses – I am dedicated!), but my iphone fits in my pocket and with fun little apps like shakeitphoto which mimics an old school polaroid, there is no post processing required and my memories are captured in a whimsical, retro style which I really love! Since I’ve had it, I’ve documented parts of my daily life which I never would have bothered with before.

So here is day one and day two of our holiday, captured with shakeitphoto.

Heartstory {family photography}

I work hard to get my horizons straight when I use my iphone. NO EDITING LATER!!!

My friend Bec | Canberra family photographer

May 28, 2010

This session took place a few weeks ago, in my favourite spot. To those who know where it is: shhhhh. Our secret. It’s a little hidden paradise, and I hope to keep it that way.

This is my dear friend Bec, her hubby Kent and their darling, beloved boy Ash. Bec is also a photographer, and I can feel deep in my heart as I’m typing these words just how much these photos are going to mean to her.

Bec and I have been good friends for five years. She helped and inspired me in a big way when I was just starting out as a photographer, and has been one of my biggest supports ever since. We worked together, became mums within a year of each other, and did the Jesh De Rox workshop together late last year, and since then we’ve seen each other grow and change in the most amazing ways.

I think these images really capture the beautiful person that she is to me and to others. Especially that fourth one down on the right–that’s her all over, and doesn’t it just make you smile?! She’s like that. She’s also a wonderful mother and one of the most caring and compassionate people I’ve ever met. I am so grateful to have her in my life.

Love you Bec. Love these too.

A lifetime of stories | Canberra family photographer

May 24, 2010

On Saturday afternoon I met another gorgeous family and had a total blast of a session. Sunshine, grassy fields, gum trees and lots of love and laughter; just the way I like it!

When Tania contacted me to book her session, she told me she loves the way I capture people so naturally, and wanted images like that for her family. The choice of location was an obvious one; a place where Tania, Craig, Chelsea and Thomas spend a lot of time, and it’s easy to see why. For starters, it’s just a stone’s throw from where they live, it’s a great place for their dog Harry to burn off energy, there’s plenty of room to kick a soccer ball around (and this family are soccer mad) – it’s an outdoors person’s paradise!

These guys were so much fun; so warm, sincere and down to earth. By the time the session was over, I felt a really strong bond with them, like I’d known them for a long time. It’s because our session wasn’t about standing over there and smiling at the camera; it was about who they are as people, and when families open up to me like they did, it makes it so easy for me to capture unique and genuine moments. I am especially fond of the ones of Chelsea and Tom together. At one point during the session I told Chelsea that one day she would look at those pictures and think they were the best thing ever; because that’s exactly how I feel when I see pictures of me and my brother from a similar age. And I know from just three years of being a parent how quickly things change and how important it is to preserve those moments in time, because one day they’ll be more precious than you could ever imagine. No matter how hard we try to live in the moment and remain grateful for each day we get to spend with the people we love, time still goes too, too fast.

Tania, Craig, Chelsea and Thomas: thank you for showing me you. I love these images, and I hope you do too. I’ll be in touch with your gallery soon.

I want to make a special mention about this last image… Tania and Craig told me they hadn’t had photos taken of just the two of them since they were married. That’s probably pretty normal, but I would like to ask everyone reading this: why? Why not celebrate your relationship and have some professional photos taken of just the two of you? This image makes my heart swell, and I’m not even in it!

Heartstory offers Love Story sessions for couples of all ages, for the simple purpose of celebrating love. Just because you can. Tania, Craig, Chelsea and Thomas had a Life Story session, designed to celebrate and capture real and natural family moments.

Magical and unforgettable | Canberra family photographer

May 16, 2010

I don’t often find myself lost for words. I’ve pretty much always got something to say, even if it’s pure gushing with a total overuse of superlatives! But there is very little that I can say about this session or this family that the pictures don’t say for themselves.

Magical and unforgettable. That’s what this session was. My heart was touched deeply by these four very special souls.

Love Autumn #1 | Canberra child photography

April 26, 2010

Unfortunately I had to reschedule my first lot of Love Autumn Mini Sessions because of the shocking weather that hit the ACT early on Saturday morning. But no matter, because it came good again within 48 hours, and so I headed out this morning to catch up with the Walker family. This is the fourth time I’ve photographed their beautiful family – the first time when Reuben was 7 months old, the second when his Mummy was pregnant with Evie, the third when Evie was a newborn, and now she’s 11 months old and Reuben is nearly three! Where does time go?

It’s been such a pleasure and a privilege to watch their family grow and capture it along the way. Enjoy your sneak peek my lovely friends.

This is a perfect opportunity for couples in love and families with young children. Love Autumn Mini Sessions: bookings now open! | Canberra baby, child & couple photographer

March 16, 2010

Guess what my favourite season is? Autumn of course, silly!

heartstory {love autumn}

heartstory {love autumn}

Sure, it might be starting to get a little chilly here in Canberra at that time of year, but it’s nothing a new jacket, a pair of boots and a pretty scarf or hat won’t fix. And that goes for littlies as well as adults!

heartstory {canberra baby photography}

Autumn is the best time of year for outdoors photography. The colours are stunning, the light is beautiful, the weather is predictable, and the littlies are happy and full of beans!  Everyone loves being outdoors in autumn! What child doesn’t love playing in leaves or running around like crazy without getting too hot? If you’ve been wondering when to get that photo session done, then let me tell you now is the right time!

And here’s another great reason why: to celebrate my love of autumn and this beautiful city we live in which has such distinct and stunning seasonal changes, I am offering two full days of mini sessions for babies, children & couples for the first time ever. Woot!

Why mini sessions? Because it allows you to get a selection of beautiful, professional photos at a really great price. It’s a perfect opportunity to get updated photos of your baby or child, without a minimum spend, but with options to upgrade and great discounts should you wish to do so.

Love Autumn Mini Sessions $300 {for babies, children & couples}

  • 30 minute photo session with me, in one of two carefully chosen outdoors locations in beautiful, autumnal Canberra
  • 10-15 fully edited images in a private online gallery
  • 2 5×7.5″ fine art gift prints of your choice
  • 2 8×12″ fine art wall prints of your choice
  • complete hi res digital collection available for an extra $450 (regular price is $1000!)
  • 10% off regular Heartstory a la carte pricing

The dates and locations are as follows…

Saturday April 24: A secret location in the Belconnen area (I will let you know over the phone when you make your booking!)
Saturday May 8: Commonwealth Park, Lake Burley Griffin

Spots are limited and on these dates only (unless we get rained out, in which case all sessions will be transferred to the next available date), so please book early to avoid missing out.

To making a booking, please email katie@heartstoryphotography.com.au or call me on 0402 091 949.

Please note:

  • a $100 non-refundable (but fully transferrable) desposit is required to secure your booking, and the remaining balance is due one week before the session.
  • this deal is designed specifically for capturing babies, children and couples, but if you would like a couple of family shots as well, I am more than happy to do that!
  • If you have more than two children in your family, you are best off booking a regular session, because 30 minutes wouldn’t allow enough time for larger families.
