The Weekend Retreat

It feels like forever already, but it was only 10 days ago that I packed my bags, my camera gear and laptop up, and took myself off to Bungendore to spend the weekend with fifteen other photographers, learning from the fabulously successful and talented Barb Uil of Jinkyart. Oh my!

I consider myself extremely privileged to have been there, and I learned a great deal. Like so many aspiring lifestyle portrait photographers, I find Barb’s work an absolute inspiration and it was a real thrill to see her in action. She was generous in every single way, and I have benefited enormously from the experience.

It was a huge weekend to say the least, and I took 600 photos, which is actually a lot less than some of the other attendees (what was I thinking?–I should have taken MORE!)! I’ve been taking my time processing them (hence my belated entry), so I had the opportunity to experiment and put some of my newly acquired tips into action. Here are some of my favourites…

I have just tagged you. See my blog for the rules.

ceylon sapphire - Ok Kat, I love some of these shots…. one day when Im back home I will have you take photos of my girl. Until then you so have to give me some photography tips! :)

Lana Bell - Katie that family shot is just awesome!! The colours, emotion, everything – I love it!

Syd - I really love the new watermark/logo design, too!

Not being all that well-versed in the technicalities of photography, I’m prone to just ecstatically carry on about the sheer awesomeness of your photos from my perspective. :)

I love the way you see things and capture them. It’s not just that you have a generous and kind view, but that you manage to make it distinct and gorgeous at the same time.

I am so glad you are pursuing this!

Narrelle - These are gorgeous. I love the first shot – so fun and bright.

Hannah - Love R’s shorts in the top shot, he looks like he’s having a ball and the blue just POPS!

It was an amazing day, one that Scarlett and I will never ever forget!

I would love to see some of Scarlett Kat, did she sit still enough for any shots? :)

Han x
