It was a pretty special wedding. Let me count the ways…
One. It was held in Brunswick Heads, just north of Byron Bay, NSW, a beautiful part of Australia, and one I could picture myself living.
Two. Serendipitously, it was the day after I finished a beautiful creative retreat with a group of amazing artists, right there in Byron Bay.
Three. The booking came to me via a great friend, which meant I got to shoot alongside said great friend, and I seriously love shooting with friends.
Four. It was probably the most loved up, heartfelt, intimate and beautiful a wedding can get. And we all know how much I love that.
I only met Joh in person a week before the wedding day. Her incredible warmth and lightness of spirit drew me in straightaway, and I was so excited to be a part of their big day. It was a joy to photograph. You could tell that every single guest adored Joh and Zac with all their hearts. The energy of all the gorgeous children who were present was truly delightful. Simon and I were witness to the most beautiful smiles, the tightest hugs, the tenderest words, and some pretty gorgeous light too. The weather wasn’t particularly kind to us, and we had a window of about five minutes to photograph Joh and Zac on their own before the rain came down again… but it was a pretty fantastic five minutes, complete with sparkly, hazy golden light and a rainbow going right into the sea behind us.
I am truly grateful for this experience. Thank you Joh and Zac for being so beautiful inside and out, and thank you Simon Pollock for bringing this wedding to me [us]: it was an absolute pleasure working with you again.
I always find it fascinating how differently two photographers can see the same scene, so I’d love you to pop over to Simon’s blog and facebook and have a look at his images too. Also you might see some shots on his facebook page that I took of him in action on the day! Simon is a Melbourne photographer, who does killer headshots, and also shoots families, kids, babies and weddings.
